Why does it matter if you make your feed uniquely you? If you’re using Facebook & Instagram to market yourself and your business you need to stand out from all the other people and businesses posting. And particularly you want to stand out from all the other people who do what you do, ie your competition.
How do you do that?
One: Have a Consistent Posting Strategy
Don’t just be posting a bunch of random content just because it’s “viral” or it’s what other people are posting. Have some topics or types of content that you post over and over again. I don’t mean constantly posting “buy from me” posts where you talk about your products and services and try to sell them. I mean educational or entertaining posts that relate to your brand.
For example, I talk about how businesses need to create know, like & trust with their audiences BEFORE they ask for the sale and how social media helps you achieve it. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ve probably heard me talk about know, like & trust. A lot. Not all the time, but regularly because I feel it’s an important concept for my followers to learn.
Another example of a company with a consistent content strategy is LUS Brands which makes products for curly haired gals. While they obviously talk about styling hair, their tagline is Love Ur Self and also they talk about self worth and acceptance.
So what do you stand for? What do you talk about over and over again?
Two: Share Something of Yourself
For example, motivational quotes are very popular online. I share them too. But I don’t just share a quote and leave. I write an often lengthy caption where I talk about why I shared the quote, what it means to me, what I hope the reader will take away from the quote and in my case how the quote helps with the know, like & trust I always post about.
What can you share about yourself?
Three: Show Your Face
Now I get it. I don’t particularly like getting on camera either. I have grey hair, wrinkles, a bit of a double chin and hair! But showing up on camera does a few things. Have you ever downloaded a photo from a royalty free site (whether it’s free or paid) for posting to your social media and then seen that exact photo over and over again on other people’s feeds? Yep, I’ve done it.
But your own face is unique. Your competitors aren’t going to be sharing it. When you post your face on Instagram or FACEbook you are creating a unique brand right there.
The other thing about posting your face is the know, like & trust factor (see what I did?). People like to do business with people they know, like & trust. They like to look you in the eye to decide if you’re worth their know, like & trust. And posting photos of yourself lets people virtually look you in the eye. Posting videos are even better.
To help you show your face, I’ve created the Low Cost Online Video Toolkit. It will help you take a tool you already own (your smartphone) and add some inexpensive accessories so you can start building know, like & trust by getting online. I’ll include the link in comments.
