If you have a Facebook page (or a personal profile) Facebook has added a feature that I think you’re going to like.

You now have the ability to schedule your posts without using an outside service like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck. Begin typing your status update and a clock icon will appear in the bottom left of your update. Hover over that clock and you’ll see you now have the ability to schedule your posts.

Schedule Posts on Facebook

Why should you schedule posts?

You’re not on Facebook 24-7. At least I hope not. But your followers could be. And posts at different times of the day may get better attention. From your Facebook page you can use Insights to see what posts had more views, more shares and greater “reach”. Sometimes it’s the content of the posts that is causing the activity. But other times it might be the day or time of the post.

Often times Saturday morning is a good time to reach people who don’t access Facebook at work. If you don’t work Saturdays you may be missing a large portion of your audience.

If you’re already using a third party service like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck you still want to schedule some of your posts this way. Facebook doesn’t always post everything to someone’s news feed. If several people are posting from a third party application Facebook may only show one of those on the newsfeed at a time. Your post might get missed.

Also, when you post from another application, it shows up in your timeline as coming from that application. When I see that, I know that person isn’t on Facebook right now. Sometimes that stops me from commenting because I know they won’t see it.

Posting from within Facebook makes you look active on the site. And people don’t know if you just typed it in or scheduled it a few days ago.
