Victoria Day Blogging Boomers Carnival
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s a beautiful Monday morning here in Owen Sound; day three of the first long weekend of the summer. This celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday gives us blue sky,
warm temperatures and the neighbours’ garage sales … where people buy other people’s crap to take home so they need to have a garage sale of their own to get rid of their old crap. But I digress.
Although this is supposed to be a holiday, like many entrepreneurs, I’m working today. Doing some writing (beyond this blog post) and catching up on my social media connections. The husband and kid are out, so I can only be disturbed by the cat’s snoring.
This week’s Blogging Boomers Carnival is being hosted at Life Two. This week the bloggers have created some interesting fare for you to taste. Mother-of-the-bride shoes, more travels in Mexico, what makes men tick, fitness and the older adult and more. Whether this is a regular work day for you or a holiday Monday, please take a moment to head on over to this week’s Carnival. I think you’ll enjoy the offering.

Blogging Boomers Carnival 162 goes to the dogs
Posted by: | CommentsThis past weekend was the unofficial end of spring here in Canada. This coming weekend is known as the May 2-4 weekend; a long weekend officially celebrating the bir
th of Queen Victoria but in reality, the traditional time for opening the cottage for the summer. In unusual fashion, this year’s long weekend actually includes May 24th or Victoria’s birthday.
I spent part of Sunday, as per usual, walking at Inglis Falls, just south of Owen Sound. The water coming over the dam is much higher than usual. The Trilliums, Ontario’s official flower, are almost finished blooming and the trees are in full leaf.
This week’s Blogging Boomers Carnival is hosted by It’s All About Aging. We seem to have a strange number of posts including dogs – protest dogs in Greece, Boomer women finding activities for their dogs – as well as mother-of-the-bride dresses, living to 100, will Yiddish die out, sexual secrets of women and LinkedIn. Please check out the Carnival and leave a comment or two if you’re so moved.
Have a good week.

Blogging Boomers Carnival #161
Posted by: | CommentsThis past weekend saw me heading off to London (Ontario, not England … I wish!) for Podcamp London. If you’ve never been to a Podcamp,
it is billed as an “unconference”. Admission is free, speakers are unpaid, the schedule changes on the fly and it’s a great networking event, not to mention I learned a ton. Expect to read more about this in the coming weeks.
The way home was an adventure because we got caught in a snowstorm! Yes, you heard me. A snowstorm in May. Now everyone is going to believe all the stereotypes about Canada. But seriously, we don’t usually get snow in May. Guess it’s our punishment for skipping the usual April snow storm. Anyway, we got home safely. Thanks to Ryan for acting as navigator. It meant I could focus on driving and not worrying about where the heck we were.
Now that I’m back home and the snow has melted, it’s time for the regular Monday post – the Blogging Boomers Carnival. This week’s host is Ann Harrison of Contemporary Retirement Coaching and creator of the Retirement Detox Program. This week’s carnival includes posts about travel in Mexico, the best advice, travel scams, jumpsuits and boomer women, a movie about Georgia O’Keefe and much more. So head on over to the Blogging Boomers Carnival to read these posts.
Have a great week!

Time for the Blogging Boomers Carnival
Posted by: | CommentsSeems like this is my week for hosting. Here in Owen Sound my dance group just held their big dance weekend plus I was host to two out-of-town dancers who needed a place to stay. It was a lovely weekend and my feet are just starting to recover. I even learned to tango and sort of sing in harmony.
Now today it’s my turn to host the Blogging Boomers Carnival. We’re a collection of baby boomers who also happen to blog. While our topics may be diverse (travel, fashion, business, aging) we all write from a boomer perspective and for a boomer audience.
The Carnival is a weekly event, with rotating hosts. Each member of the carnival submits their best post of the past week. Each Monday the host puts these posts together into a single post, complete with links.
Your job, as a visitor to the carnival, is to visit the blogs of the articles that catch your eye, read the posts, and if you are so moved, to join in the conversation by leaving a comment or passing along the link via Twitter, Facebook or your social media tool of choice. After all, blogging isn’t just about one person writing and another person reading; it’s about having a conversation.
So, lets get started:
Descending into Mexico’s Copper Canyon, Barbara Weibel at Hole In The Donut Travels takes a hair-raising bus ride to the village of Batopilas, on a dirt road that’s barely large enough for the bus, much less oncoming traffic. The video tells the story.
SoBabyBoomer recommends a Mother’s Day gift guide for staying in touch with each child emotionally; a matter of the highest priority for parents and boomer grandparents.
Want to learn just about everything there is to know about menopause in one place? How about the latest info. on the effectiveness of OTC remedies and estrogen replacement in your 50s? The Midlife Crisis Queen just reviewed a product that can do all that for you. Plus it includes a bonus DVD for your partner and family to watch, so they can understand better what you’re going through!
The Boomer Chronicles reports on the first reality TV show to feature folks over 60.
If you are still wearing “cute” when you should be wearing “classy”, then you need visit Fabulous after 40. The Glam Gals have some fashion advice about what not to buy to rid yourself of little girl style.
Just because we can say that we’re sorry, should we? LifeTwo.com and the WSJ have tips about when and how to apologize.
Want to avoid stooping as you get older? Head over to Contemporary Retirement for a simple solution:
It’s All About Aging is signing Oprah’s No Phone Zone agreement to ban texting and driving. Have you?
And finally, one from The Baby Boomer Entrepreneur. I write about a heart-stopping moment I had in Help! I’m locked out of my blog! If you have a blog, please read my post and take my advice.
Happy reading!

Blogging Boomers Carnival #159

Being in business (as well as being a wife and mother) means that I often feel like I have too many balls – or pins – in the air at any one time. This week I’m working on a major project for a client, trying to get some of my own sales copy online and getting ready for a dance weekend here in Owen Sound. Oh yea, and there’s housework, laundry, helping my son with his new paper route and trying to get my butt out of the chair long enough to get some exercise. No wonder I feel like I’m juggling.
Of course, I’m hardly unique. Most of you can probably come up with a list that’s longer than mine. That’s one of the joys of being a baby boomer – we’re busy people. If you don’t believe boomers have a lot on the go, just head on over to this week’s edition of the Blogging Boomers Carnival. Barbara Weibel, this week’s host, writes Hole in the Donut travel blog.
Barbara writes that she, “only recently figured out what I want to be when I grow up.” This is a phrase I’ve heard from more than one boomer making a mid-life course correction. It’s a phrase I’ve used myself. If you’re at all interested in travel and can relate to Barbara’s sentiment, you’ll probably enjoy her blog.
Of course, there’s more to the Carnival than the host’s blog. This week’s topics include what to wear to a child’s wedding, finding out how the meaning of your life may have changed, scary stuff from the fridge, Twitter and money plus a lot more. So start your week off right with a trip to the Blogging Boomers Carnival.
Have a happy week.
