On Twitter? Get the new TweetDeck

By

I just watched a YouTube video by TweetDeck about their new version. I’ve been using TweetDeck for a while to manage my Twitter account and I already thought the previous update was a huge improvement. But version 0.32 just blew my mind. I could barely wait to get the update.

Some of the new features include the ability to update LinkedIn (yea!) and have a LinkedIn column showing your connections updates. You can also view and add Twitter Lists from within TweetDeck. I love the lists feature and was spending more time at Twitter.com because of them. But having the lists in TweetDeck means I can stop flipping back and forth.

There’s a whole lot more to learn, so watch the video. It will tell you everything you need to know. Then head on over to TweetDeck and get the new version!

Good video. I hadn’t checked out the new Tweetdeck yet.

Looks very easy to use and great new tools. I switched to Hootsuite who also announced some soon to be released new features(Facebook, Linkin and Ping.fm connections) but Tweetdeck with these new features is something I will definitely take a second look at.

I actually prefer Seesmic Desktop to TweetDeck

  4. Great info, Andrea.

I just upgraded and there is one feature that is driving me nuts; the tweets that appear in the top right corner of my screen while I’m doing other things. Wonder how they can be disabled? If not, I won’t be using TweetDeck much because it’s too distracting.

  5. Update on my last post: exiting of Tweetdeck doesn’t stop the flashing tweets. Neither does closing down the browser. That leaves restarting my computer.

Hum…I think I’ve just fired Tweetdeck.

    Helene,

The notifications can be controlled by going to setting in the top right of the Tweetdeck window. Then, go to “Notifications” and then you will see the 2 notification windows. Clicking on the text to the windows will change it from “off” to “on”.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Thanks Iain for jumping in to help. Helene, I agree that the notifications are distracting. I’m easily enough distracted without having something shiny and new popping up every few minutes.

When you shut down TweetDeck, you probably didn’t close it completely. Go to the hidden icons section of your Windows toolbar and you’ll see the TweetDeck icon, which you’ll need to turn off there.

It does that because the default setting is to “hide the notification area” when the close button is hit.

If you want TweetDeck to turn off entirely you need to change the settings. Also in the settings section, under the “General” tab, go to the bottom. You’ll see “Close button should” with a toggle switch. Simply change it to “quit application” and it will shut down completely when you hit the “x” at the top.
